I'm honored to share the stage with notable female authors at the Women's Month-themed Book Talk series of Philippine Expressions Bookshop in California.
As I always say, volunteering is my way to give back, especially for our children. Special "thank yous" go to the Kindergarten class of the Laurel School for this opportunity with the kids. More power!
With the theme "Resilience", the team at The International Dublin Writers Festival invited me to speak about inspiration and insights in creating a book. I was honored to join alongside such creative talents and authors.
On October 12, 2020, I had the pleasure speaking at the Commission on Filipinos Overseas' free webinar about transitioning to the U.S. I gave pointers on job-hunting, finding the cost of rent, children's schooling, and other important reminders before going to the U.S. as an immigrant. I also gave ebooks to lucky online viewers. Helping other Filipinos reach their dreams in America is the best way to celebrate Filipino-American History Month (October).
I had the pleasure of speaking before the Tourism Management interns of the Trinity University of Asia. It was a fruitful and enriching talk. Some reached out to me after the event and have expressed interest to learn more about my profession.
The war in Ukraine has caused the displacement of many Filipino overseas workers, the unsung heroes of the Philippines. I traveled to Budapest, Hungary, on April 5 with a mission to volunteer for Ukrainian refugees. Though I didn't meet them, I met these amazing Pinays: Regina, Rose, and Marlyn, who fled from Ukraine to Hungary. This is their story. Kudos to Mabuhay Filipino Community in Hungary for helping these women in need! For Filipinos in Hungary and other nearby countries, please reach out to them if you need help.
Visiting my book designer for I Love Flying, David Brady, in Seattle on the opening of his month-long exhibit, "The Human Condition: A Journey Through Cancer and Recovery". The 28 works are an extension of his new Graphic Memoir, "Into The Tunnel".
